Goal: Sustainable living for former child slaves
Partners: Zanmi Timoun, Amurtel, Beyond Borders
Restavek – the practice of forced child labor – persists in Haiti today. Children of extremely poor families are often given away or sold in hopes they will receive an education or working opportunities. These children are often stripped of their names, denied access to education, and forced to perform household tasks. C4K works with a select group of partner organizations that specialize in freeing, educating and empowering former restaveks. Through social enterprise initiatives, transformative classes, and systems training workshops, teens are provided assets to start their own small, independent businesses. A revolving loan fund continually expands enrollment size, and past recipients become mentors to new members. The teens are organized in collectives and work together to help each other become self-sufficient.
